Students will have the opportunity to learn within each leadership capacity at their discretion.

To receive recognition in the John Lewis Student Leadership Pathways, students will participate in learning opportunities that connect to the Aspen Index leadership categories and capacities. Students can accumulate experiences in the following six categories:

What is a Capacity?

Capacities serve as the foundation of leadership development and are specified by one's skills, knowledge, behaviors, and attitudes connected with a key leadership concept. By learning to apply capacities effectively, leaders will have the ability to lead in a variety of contexts, an essential skill for today’s leaders.

What is a Category?

Each of the 30+ capacities is arranged into convenient categories essential for leadership.

The John Lewis Student Leadership Pathways is designed for students to move through at their own pace. Students will have the opportunity to reach Pathways Levels of Learning - Green, Silver, Blue, and Gold. Students reach different levels by attending workshops, retreats, service projects, and programs offered by the Pathways and other Georgia Tech departments. Tracking your Pathways progress is available through Engage. Students will be able to review their progress on their Pathways at any time. All Georgia Tech students are eligible to register to begin their Pathways journey at any time within their college career.
